19 CloneX NFTs worth a total of over $138,000 among those stolen

A "crafty" phishing scheme that victimized RTFKT COO Nikhil Gopalani resulted in the loss of about $200,000 in NFTs from his wallet.

Gopalani said in a tweet on Tuesday that he had lost his NFT collection—which contained Clone X NFTs and things from other collections—to a con artist in what appeared to be a phishing assault.

A Death Row Records NFT of the "Clone X Theme Song" valued roughly $59 remains in the wallet that looks to be connected to Gopalani as of right now.

Further information from OpenSea reveals that the attacker's two wallets were used to steal from Gopalani's wallet 19 CloneX NFTs worth a total of over $138,000, 18 RTKFT Space Pods worth over $6,300, 17 Loot Pods worth over $6,200, 11 CryptoKicks worth over $3,000, 19 RTFKT Animus Eggs worth over $20,200, and more.

RTFKT CTO Samuel Cardillo declined to comment on specifics of the hack when questioned, citing "legal purposes." Added him:

"All I can say is: be aware that companies such as Microsoft, Apple, ... will never ask you for your password, your private key nor any other forms of private information via phone nor emails."

Cardillo refuted a charge that his reaction was "very corporate" and suggested that a legal inquiry might be in progress by tweeting that more information could not be given until "a lawful agency" was allowed to "conduct an investigation correctly."

In December 2021, Nike purchased RTFKT, a virtual sneakers startup that develops NFTs and digital shoes for the metaverse. Nike has also begun. In November of last year, the Web3 platform SWOOSH, which will be utilized to introduce avatar-specific virtual clothing like t-shirts and sneakers.

In 2022, NFT Scams Hit a Record High.

In 2022, there was a sharp increase in the number of phishing attempts that targeted members of the NFT community, along with a significant surge in the number of DeFi attacks.

As previously mentioned, an exploit in early June cost the well-known NFT collection Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) ETH 200 worth of digital assets. Mid-July hacks also affected NFT influencer Zeneca and NFT registration site PREMINT.

Phantom, a Solana wallet provider, introduced a new feature in mid-August that will burn spam NFTs delivered by con artists in an effort to combat spammers.
